About Working Traveller

Working Traveller is an online community that connects over 4,000 hosts in more than 50 countries looking for skills they need from over 50,000 travellers from all corners of the globe that will be working and travelling in their country.

Our hosts are a diverse group of independent small businesses owners, non-profit organizations, and expatriate families. They require specific skills at certain times of the year that they cannot find locally. Through our easy-to-use website they can post volunteer and work exchange opportunities directly to our growing global pool of purpose driven travellers.

Our travellers come from all walks of life, including recent graduates on gap year, tradespeople, artists, professionals on career break, and digital nomads. What these people share in common is the desire to see more of the world and develop skills in a setting of cultural exchange. They are available for weeks or months at a time and willing to contribute time and energy in exchange for a bed, meals, and other forms of compensation as agreed upon individually.

Working Traveller’s mission is to provide services “to our community that matches the right hosts with the right traveller as easily as possible.

The Working Traveller Wiki is a comprehensive encyclopedic resource with current and reliable information for prospective travellers to help plan and prepare for a volunteer or work exchange placement in any region of the world.

Hosts and travellers on Working Traveller leave references (peer reviews) for each other upon the completion of each work placement. The reference system encourages better outcomes by offering hosts and travellers the peace of mind that comes with real feedback and for travellers – a real CV (resume) for when they go back home to look for a job.

Working Traveller was founded by Duncan Ridgley in 2015. He recognized the unmet need for matching hosts and travellers through their skills from his experiences constructing and operating boutique hotels in Egypt and Transylvania, Romania. For press or other inquiries, please feel free to write Duncan and his team at ‘duncan  at workingtraveller.com’.
