Travellers FAQ

Your profile is free and allows you to contact thousands of hosts – small businesses, non-profit organizations, and expatriate families. Through our website you can find volunteer or work exchange placements all over the world.

When you create a Working Traveller Profile, we ask for some personal information. This information helps keep your profile secure and makes our services more useful.

You must be at least 18 years old to sign up as a traveller.

There are many ways to help. Be an active member of our community and complete a volunteer or work exchange placement. Mention us with a link on your social media account. Write a blog post or press article about us. Contribute to our Wiki.

Visit the country wiki page here. Click the button inside the green box that says “apply for moderator access.”

Fully complete your profile. Then search for hosts using the “Find Work” page. When you see a host or volunteer or work exchange placement you are interested in, click the green “View Details” button to start a chat.

This will depend entirely on what you agree upon with the Host in your volunteer or work exchange placement. Make sure to communicate with your host only through the Working Traveller chat. This way there will be a record of your agreement and Working Traveller can help resolve any issues or misunderstandings that might occur.

At this time we do not help arrange visas. It is the traveller’s responsibility to obtain the visa and other required paperwork such as travel insurance.

When you complete your volunteer or work exchange placement, your host will rate you from 0 to 10 in three areas: skills, punctuality and work ethic, and decision making. Once the reference is created by the host it is verified by us and then added to your Working Traveller profile for other hosts to see. References from completed volunteer or work exchange placements can be used to create track record of experience that a potential employer will value in the future.

Working Traveller is free to use for travellers. Once you complete a volunteer or work exchange placement, we will charge €10 to verify your reference and add it to your profile.

Only your first name, profile picture, age, and nationality are shared with the host.

We do everything possible to give travellers the tools to make informed decisions through our reference system. Working Traveller facilitates contact between travellers and hosts, it does not act as an agent. We encourage travellers to contact us with any issues so we can take action to resolve them.

We never share you email or any other information with third parties. We only use your information to help you contact hosts and keep the site secure.
